What is PDF/A?
An ISO standard for archiving: fonts are embedded and everything needed to display the document is inside the file, so it looks the same decades from now.
Which level do I need?
Use what your recipient specifies. If unsure, PDF/A-2b is widely accepted. PDF/A-1b is the strictest and oldest.
