Is Base64 encryption?
No. Base64 only changes how data is written so it can travel through text-only channels. Anyone can decode it, so never use it to hide passwords or secrets.
What is URL-safe Base64?
It replaces + and / with - and _ and drops the = padding, so the result can go in URLs and file names. The decoder accepts both forms.
Why is the Base64 bigger than my file?
Base64 uses 4 characters for every 3 bytes, so it is about 33% larger. For large images, linking the file is usually better than a data URL.
